  • Trauma

When you go through a traumatic experience, it is common to feel a sense of hopelessness with the belief that things will never be the same again. Many people rely on denial or avoidance to help cope with the negative memories. It may seem to help for the short-term, but it’s no way to live. Connections Counseling understands that it’s impossible to erase what happened, but it is possible to change how you relate to it. Trauma therapy can help you look outside of the experience, set boundaries and show up for yourself authentically so you realize your power and strength.

  • Pregnancy & Postpartum Mental Health

The perinatal period refers to the duration of a woman’s pregnancy as well as the weeks and months following birth. As exciting and joyful as it is to welcome a newborn into this world, it can also be extremely overwhelming. Experiencing some amount of anxiety and stress is normal, but when these conditions become overly frequent or intense, they can begin to negatively impact an individual’s wellbeing. Brittany Katz is trained to help clients navigate the challenges experienced by new parents, modify unproductive thoughts, and foster social support.

Treatment Approaches:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapy that is based on the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all interconnected. CBT helps people to identify and change negative thinking patterns and behaviors in order to improve their emotional well-being.

CBT is a highly effective treatment for a wide range of mental health problems, including: Anxiety disorders, Depression, Eating disorders, Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

CBT is a collaborative process between the therapist and the client. The therapist helps the client to identify their negative thinking patterns and behaviors, and to develop new, more helpful ways of thinking and behaving. The client also works actively to practice these new skills in their everyday life.

CBT is a very practical therapy, and clients learn skills that they can use to manage their symptoms and improve their lives.

  • EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a highly effective form of therapy for trauma and other psychological disorders. It is a relatively new therapy, developed in the late 1980s, but it has quickly become one of the most widely used and well-researched trauma treatments in the world.

EMDR works by helping people to reprocess traumatic memories and experiences so that they no longer cause distress. The therapy is typically administered in a series of sessions, during which the client focuses on the traumatic memory while engaging in bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, tapping, or tones. The bilateral stimulation helps to activate the brain's natural healing processes, allowing the client to process the memory and move on from it.

EMDR has been shown to be effective for a wide range of trauma-related disorders, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, and phobias. It has also been used to treat other conditions, such as chronic pain, eating disorders, and grief.

  • Parts and Memory Therapy

Parts and Memory Therapy (PMT) is a powerful and effective psychotherapy for healing trauma and other psychological problems. It is based on the idea that the mind is made up of many different parts, each with its own unique thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Some of these parts may be wounded or traumatized, and they may be causing problems in our lives.

PMT helps people to identify and connect with their different parts, and to understand how they are affecting their lives. It also helps people to heal their wounded parts and to create a more integrated and harmonious mind.

PMT is a relatively new therapy, but it has been shown to be very effective in treating a wide range of problems, including: Trauma, PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, and Relationship problems.

PMT is a collaborative process between the therapist and the client. The therapist helps the client to identify their different parts, to understand their needs, and to heal their wounds. The client also works actively to learn new coping skills and to make changes in their lives.

Connections Counseling embraces collaboration. Therapy is not about telling clients what to do, but paving the way for them to find clarity and comfort.

In order to achieve different results, you must be willing to change your approach. Brittany works with her clients to find strategies that resonate and prove effective for the individual. These approaches typically include:

Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Family/Marital Therapy
